Yangtze River Delta Railway: Advancing the Rail-Based Logistics “Corridor”
Lines of “steel dragons” stand ready to depart, as freight yards across the Yangtze River Delta railway network present a scene of bustling activity. Recently, the annual container throughput of Shanghai sea-rail intermodal transport exceeded one million TEUs for the first time. Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CR-Shanghai has accelerated the development of a modern railway logistics system and established a three-dimensional logistics network integrating sea, road and rail transport.
In recent years, the Yangtze River Delta railway has strengthened international cooperation by establishing mechanisms featuring information sharing, unified standards and facilitated customs clearance with countries and overseas stations along the routes of CRE trains to Europe and Central Asia. It has also maintained the stable operation of the CRE train with a full-route timetable from Yiwu, Zhejiang province, to Duisburg, Germany. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period and as of the end of October this year, the Yangtze River Delta railway has completed 10.2159 million metric tons of cross-border freight transport, dispatched 20,008 CRE trains and China-Central Asia trains, and achieved over 110 million metric tons of rail-water intermodal transport volume. The range of goods transported by the CRE (Central Asia) Train has gradually shifted toward high-value-added products such as photovoltaic new energy components.
